COURSEWORK SUBMISSION

The music video is also assessable on the website (above)

Statement of intent

The music video I create will be set to the audio track of 'Show Me Love' by Sam Feldt, within this I will use dance music video conventions such as showing a progressive narrative or performance throughout the video, though by also mixing the locations used. I will also match the upbeat tempo of the dance track with fast paced editing - cutting between contrasting shots, in time to the beat. I will also use industrial looking lighting as I hope to create a video which has a raw and basic aesthetic, also aided by the use of a typical wide angle shot of a GoPro camera. For this I like the idea of creating a hand-made aesthetic, looking as if one of the characters within the music video are filming, helping to place the AB demographic, 16-25 year olds directly within the action of the video.

I will also use media conventions for the website I create. For instance, I will include a home page with information on the artist, as well as related images and linked tabs. Here, these will link to other pages where further information such as tour dates for the artist and the link to the music video will appear. My website will also show a clear title for the artist with a prominent logo, helping to brand the artist throughout the products. This logo will relate to my artist’s background, for instance a modern take on a pinpoint which would be placed in a map. From this it will aid the continuity of the overall brand I produce, with the repetition of the artist’s logo and the link to the website, pulling all the products together. I will aim both of my media products towards the AB demographic, 16-25 target market, stated in the brief, hence all elements I include will be tailored, using techniques such as point-of-view shots, which will help the video I create to be relatable to the audience. Within these media conventions I will also create an underlying societal message appealing against the underpinned stereotypes, such as the apathy that young adults have towards the exploration of opposing viewpoints.

I have chosen these in particular as I feel these issues will appeal to the sophisticated AB demographic of my young target audience; I am also within this target age group and so I am able to relate and easily research into aspects of society which this generation doesn't value.  The ideas I will convey will also suit this sophisticated demographic as the idea of travelling, especially to experience a completely contrasting culture is a hobby which is associated to this demographic.
I will also show branding for the label 'Universal Music' within both my products, as this is the label which my artist is tied to. This will be mainly shown with my website, where I may include a linked tab to information on the label and how it aids my artists work. Similarly, I could also add hyperlinks at the end of my music video to these music service sites, hence helping my artist and Universal Music to make profit for their work.
As well as creating this theme of branding throughout my media products, I also wish to represent further themes within both media products I create. These include references to stereotypes given to different generations and how they are depicted within society. However, within my media products, especially the music video, I intent to make it clear that these stereotypes I present will become twisted. For instance, looking into how younger people are depicted; then linking this to other cultures, specifically focusing on Indian culture which is where the majority of my footage will be taken, where different attitudes are shown. I have chosen to focus my media product on this societal issue as the culturally sophisticated target market I am aiming my products towards will be able to relate and interact with this message as they are, part of societies future leading generation as well as also being part of one of the generations which carries multiple stereotypes with all of these providing misrepresentations.
