ANALYSING LUCOZADE'S ADVERTISMENT

How have they represented their product in the poster?

This poster by Lucozade is attractive to the audience, using a bold font and a simple layout to make it appealing to those interested. The audience for this advert are most probably interested in sport, therefore will connect with the elements used. Though, as this advert is for a major brand like Lucozade they can afford to place this on a billboard in a busy area, or in a major magazine for example. Hence the audience is vast for an advertisement like this, therefore the elements used must appeal to this large target market.

The use of a very simplistic layout adds emphasis to the message behind the advertisement; with no unnecessary elements taking the focus away from the text and the image. The font used for the text, 'IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE', is simple, though also bold and easily read. This is an important factor when finding a font for an advertisement on this scale, as it is likely to be shown on billboards, therefore customers need to recognise the advert from a distance. The font also stands straight and tall, this may reference football players Gareth Bale, standing tall and strong within matches. As well as this use of font, the colours used within the advert also help to represent the brand Lucozade, as these colours are associated with the drink Lucozade Sport. These colours clearly contrast with each other, again this is another element which helps make the advertisement stand out to the audience. The use of the colour blue, may have been used due to its cooling and refreshing connotations, both are wanted aspects of a sports drink. Similarly, the use of the yellow colour may represent energy and power, again linking in with the qualities the brand are claiming the energy drink will give a performer.

The image used within this advertisement adds to the emphasise behind the advert as a whole. The camera shot especially, directs the message to the audience as the footballer is directed to look straight down the camera lens. This makes him visually seem powerful and strong, whilst also being focused and determined. As well as this camera angle, the way in which Gareth Bale is shown, biting his lip and tensing, also help to give the audience the idea of power, as he is 'IN A DIFFERENT LEAUGUE' compared to everyone else.
This use of text fits perfectly alongside the shown image, clearly referencing the footballer Gareth Bale, who drinks Lucozade. This is a major claim to make, stating, not only that he in better than other footballers, but is another 'league' up. The use of the noun 'league' gives the advertisement another link into their sponsored sport, football; as there are different divisions with leagues within.
Similarly, the use of lighting within the image matches the overall theme of the advert. The image shows quite cooling tones within his complexion, making him almost seem paler. This therefore matches with the blue background used, and the connotations of a refreshing drink. This is another way in which the brand have made it clear that Bale drinks Lucozade - claiming to the audience how if they drink Lucozade too then they will gain the strength which he shows.
